February 3, 2020

CLOQUET, MN -- Mahaila Houle will be in the U.S. House of Representatives chambers Tuesday attending President Trump's third State of the Union Address as a guest of Rep. Pete Stauber (R - MN 8th).

Houle, a member of the Fond du Lac Band, is an apprentice of Operating Engineers Local 49 and has worked on notable projects including Superior Street and the Essentia expansion project.

Stauber said Houle's position is temporary and she's eager to begin construction on the Line 3 replacement project.

"At the State of the Union, Mahaila will represent the thousands of skilled workers across Minnesota who are waiting for construction of the Line 3 replacement project to begin and the economic prosperity that this project promises," Stauber said in a statement.

Houle shared in a Local 49 blog post that she was shocked to be invited to the State of the Union, but is excited she is getting the opportunity.

"I really appreciate being a part of history. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it's exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time," Houle said.

President Donald Trump will deliver the State of the Union address Tuesday night at 8 p.m. You can watch it live on KBJR 6 and on kbjr6.com.
