Rep. Pete Stauber visits Duluth Maternity home

January 3, 2020

DULUTH, MN -- A Duluth home that helps mothers-in-need wants to open their doors to more women and their babies.

However, the Star of the North Maternity home needs money to make that happen.

Friday, they got a visit from a local lawmaker who wants to lend a hand.

The facility, which runs solely off donations just opened last June.

They help mothers through the first months of their baby's life by teaching the women new skills and providing them with items like diapers and clothes.

The maternity home's chairperson says they want to offer those services to more people. So they're looking around for grant money and other funding opportunities.

Congressman Stauber's visit gave them new hope, as he hoped to better understand how they function, and hopefully help them find ways to secure funding.

Congressman Pete Stauber stated, "It's about working with moms who are pregnant, and giving them the opportunity when they choose life, they have a safe spot to land.. and there is a community that is nurturing in the Northland your looking at all the other non profits that work together to give these moms and these babies the opportunity to have that american dream."

In the past year, Star of the North has served six women and four babies with two more on the way.
