WASHINGTON, D.C -- K9 Luna, who was shot and killed during a standoff in Duluth Friday, was honored at the U.S. Capitol Tuesday.

Rep. Pete Stauber, who represents Minnesota's 8th Congressional District, gave a tribute to the late Duluth Police Department K9 on the House of Representatives floor.

"K9 Luna was a guardian of the Duluth community," Stauber said. "She died a hero's death, giving her life to protect her partner and fellow officers on the scene."

Stauber, who is a former Duluth Police Officer, also shared his condolences to the entire department along with Officer Aaron Haller and his family.

"I know it cannot be easy to say goodbye to such a good and loving friend," Stauber said.

Haller was Luna's handler. He also handled K9 Haas, who was killed in an officer involved shooting in January 2019.
