During National Small Business Week, Stauber Invites Duluth Business Owner to Testify in Small Business Committee Hearing
WASHINGTON, D.C. – During National Small Business Week, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) questioned Jerry Kortesmaki, owner of London Road Rental Center in Duluth, during a Small Business Committee hearing titled "Honoring the Nation's Small Business Heroes." The purpose of this hearing was to highlight small businesses across the country and hear both the successes and challenges they face as a small business.
Of the hearing, Stauber stated, "Small businesses are the driving force behind the American economy as they create a majority of new jobs and generate billions of dollars annually in revenue. Minnesota's Eighth Congressional District is fortunate to have many small businesses, like Jerry's, that provide good paying jobs to hard-working Minnesotans."
Stauber followed, stating, "Much of what is done here in the Capitol affects small business owners' ability to create local jobs and opportunities. That's why I am grateful to Jerry for testifying here today. While we have made good progress with the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, Jerry's testimony about his experiences as a small business owner highlighted how Congress can further help our nation's small businesses grow and expand."
During the hearing, Congressman Stauber asked Kortesmaki whether the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act had a positive effect on his business. Kortesmaki responded, stating, "Yes it did. A very positive effect. It saved my business $7,200 dollars."
Stauber then asked Kortesmaki what the House Small Business Committee can do to help small businesses like his thrive. Kortesmaki responded, stating, "Balancing all these regulations against cost. Every time these regulations come up, there has got to be a formula in there to understand that these regulations costs small businesses so much money."
