Following Stauber’s Introduction of the Securing America’s Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Act, President Trump Signs “Buy American” Executive Order

August 6, 2020

The President’s Executive Order compliments Stauber legislation that aims to reduce reliance on unreliable foreign nations for lifesaving pharmaceuticals.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) made the following statement after President Trump signed an Executive Order that calls on federal agencies to purchase "essential drugs" and medical supplies from American suppliers, rather than overseas. The signing of this Executive Order comes after Stauber introduced bipartisan legislation that would require federal agencies to purchase drugs made in the United States earlier this year.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has further exposed the dangers of our reliance on the Communist Regime of China and other unpredictable foreign nations for lifesaving drugs and medical supplies that so many Americans depend on. The American people will no longer tolerate China's chokehold over the pharmaceutical market, and it is time we take action to move supply chains away from China and return to the production of these items here in the United States. I applaud this Administration for taking this massive step in the right direction, and I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and the White House to rebuild America's pharmaceutical supply chain."

Background:
