Moose Lake High School Senior Wins 2019 Congressional Art Competition

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) announced Charis Blacklock, a senior at Moose Lake High School, as the winner of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition. The winning entry, titled "Birds Nest," is a water color portrait of a girl with a wreath of branches around her head.

Of the Congressional Art Competition, Stauber said, "Each piece of artwork submitted for this competition was incredibly impressive, making choosing a winner a tough decision for our judges. I am so proud of the talent coming out of Minnesota's Eighth Congressional District. A huge congratulations to Charis – I cannot wait to see your talent on display in the U.S. Capitol."

The first-place winner will receive a free trip, not at taxpayer expense, to Washington, D.C. for the Congressional Institutes' Awards Reception. Additionally, the first-place artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, along with other winning pieces of artwork from other Congressional Districts throughout the nation.

Results of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition:

1st Place -- Charis Blacklock, Senior, Moose Lake High School. Title of Entry: Birds Nest, water color portrait;

2nd Place – Luke Puffer, Senior, Lakeview Christian Academy. Title of Entry: Whiskers, a pencil drawing;

3rd Place – Amanda Lawless, 10th Grade, Hermantown High School. Title of Entry: A Day on the Lakewalk, oil on canvas.
