Stauber Announces Grant to Upgrade Aitkin Water Tower
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) announced a $2,320,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to assist the City of Aitkin with the construction of a new water tower and other water infrastructure upgrades.
“I’m proud to have helped secure this significant investment to help the City of Aitkin replace its water tower,” said Congressman Pete Stauber. “The distribution of these funds are a win-win for the residents of Aitkin as a reliable water system is critical for this community’s health and economic success.”
“We are extremely appreciative of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for awarding the City of Aitkin $2.32 million for our water tower upgrade,” said Aitkin City Administrator Jennifer Thompson. “This funding, along with an additional $400,000 from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) and a low-interest loan from the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority, will allow us to move forward with this critical project. For small, rural communities like the City of Aitkin, state and federal support is essential to making infrastructure improvements that might otherwise be out of reach. We are thankful for Representative Pete Stauber's support of this project; his advocacy has been a key factor in helping us secure this funding. These investments will not only improve essential services but also support our community’s long-term stability and growth."
Stauber requested funding for this project for Fiscal Year 2023. This funding request was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023.
