Stauber Applauds Move to Finalize WOTUS Repeal
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) made the following statement after the Trump Administration's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Army Corps of Engineers finalized the repeal of the harmful Waters of the Unites States (WOTUS) rule, put into effect by the Obama Administration.
"The repeal of WOTUS is one of the most important issues facing my constituents. Therefore, I thank President Trump and Administrator Wheeler for issuing this final draft rule, marking the beginning of the end for a burdensome power grab affecting Minnesotans across all industries. I know farmers, manufacturers, and homeowners in my district look forward to the completion of this rule and the removal of onerous red tape that has negatively affected their daily lives for too long."
Background (courtesy of the Western Caucus):
In March 2014, the Obama Administration released a new regulation that would assert Clean Water Act jurisdiction over nearly all areas with even the slightest connections to water resources, including man-made conveyances. Specifically, WOTUS attempted to expand agency control over 60% of our country's streams and millions of acres of wetlands that were previously non-jurisdictional.
