Stauber Denounces Governor Walz’s Decision on Line 3, Calls the Project a Win-Win for Minnesota

February 12, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) made the following statement after Governor Tim Walz announced his administration would continue former Governor Dayton's decision to appeal regulatory approval of Enbridge Energy's Line 3 pipeline project in Northern Minnesota.

"Governor Walz made the wrong call today, as the replacement of Line 3 is in the best interest of our state," said Stauber. "The fact of the matter is Line 3 is corroding, and the safe delivery of energy product on which we all rely is dependent on its replacement. In addition, the construction of this pipeline will provide thousands of jobs for hardworking Minnesotans and generate millions of dollars in property tax revenue for rural schools. This project is a win-win for Minnesota. Although Governor Walz's misguided decision needlessly delays the replacement of Line 3, I am confident the project will still go forward as planned."

Congressman Stauber, along with Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06), Congressman Jim Hagedorn (MN-01), and Congressman Collin Peterson (MN-07) today sent a letter to Governor Walz requesting his administration respect the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission's (PUC) unanimous approval of the project and not needlessly restart the review process. Read the letter, HERE.

Background:

In June 2018, the PUC unanimously approved Enbridge Energy's Certificate of Need to replace the corroding Line 3 pipeline. Governor Dayton's Department of Commerce appealed that decision and will petition the PUC to review its unanimous decision.
