Stauber Handpicked by Peers to Serve on House Natural Resources Committee

July 30, 2020

As threats to our way of life intensify, Congressman Stauber selected to serve on House Committee with jurisdiction over outdoor recreation, mining, public lands, timber harvesting, and other relevant issues.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) announced his appointment to serve on the House Natural Resources Committee. Stauber's appointment is the result of his continued leadership on natural resources issues and commitment to defending the way of life in his rural district.

Of his new position, Congressman Stauber stated, "From the Iron Range, to the Whitefish chain, and over to Lake Mille Lacs and the St. Croix, our home is a natural resources-based economy. Therefore, I am honored to be named to the Natural Resources Committee, which oversees issues directly impacting jobs, the economy, and our way of life in Minnesota's Eighth Congressional District. My first term in Congress has enabled me to fight for my district's economic drivers – including the responsible development of our God-given resources, sound forest management, and the proper supervision of local wildlife. Misguided attacks on our key economic drivers are at an all-time high, and this committee appointment will enable a direct role in the legislative process surrounding these issues for myself and my constituents. I am grateful for this valuable opportunity, and I look forward to continuing this important work."

Western Caucus Chairman, Congressman Paul Gosar stated, "Congressman Stauber is an outstanding representative for the people of Northern Minnesota and a great friend. He has been a steadfast advocate for the mining industry in Northern Minnesota, an industry that is constantly under attack from Twin City Democrats. This has made him one of the most tenacious fighters for the people he represents in all of Congress. His work to advance job creation and national security through the responsible development of our nation's resources make him ideally suited to be a member of the Natural Resources Committee. Knowing Pete his first question will be 'where can I get my hands dirty helping Minnesota advance American mineral and energy independence.' His willingness to serve on the Natural Resources Committee will give him the perfect platform to advocate for the needs of the people of Northern Minnesota and I am excited to work with him as a fellow member of the committee."

Congressman Bruce Westerman stated, "Rep. Stauber has always been a champion for conservative values, and I'm thrilled to welcome him to the House Natural Resources Committee. I've had the privilege of visiting Minnesota's 8th Congressional District – including part of the Superior National Forest – and I know Rep. Stauber will bring an important perspective on resources issues affecting both his district and the entire country. I look forward to working with him!"

Congressman Stauber has introduced several bills under the Natural Resources Committee jurisdiction including his first bill, the Superior National Forest Land Exchange Act. Since arriving in Congress, Stauber has been invited to participate several times as guest Member on important issues facing his district. Most recently, he participated in a hearing to voice his strong opposition to H.R. 5598, a bill that would kill the consideration of any precious metal development, and in turn deny thousands of high-wage union mining jobs to northern Minnesota. As a Member of the House Committee on Natural Resources, Congressman Stauber will help craft policy on a wide range of topics, including public lands, mining, wildlife, and Indian affairs.

Congressman Stauber is also a Member on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Small Business Committee.
