Stauber Helps Advance Legislation to Expand Registered Apprenticeships

November 23, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Recently, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) helped advance the National Apprenticeship Act of 2020, legislation that will expand our nation's workforce by investing more than $3.5 billion to increase access to registered apprenticeships, youth apprenticeships, and pre-apprenticeships.

Of this legislation, Congressman Stauber stated, "As our nation works to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, it is more important than ever to give Americans tools to succeed. By investing in registered apprenticeship programs, the National Apprenticeship Act of 2020 will ensure Americans have access to programs that allow them to earn while they learn and find success in a wide range of industries. Northern Minnesota has several upcoming projects in mining, healthcare, construction, and other sectors. Today's vote is a critical step in ensuring projects that will rejuvenate our economy move forward seamlessly. Therefore, I was proud to help advance registered apprenticeship programs and I hope the Senate does the same soon."

This legislation will also codify the Office of Apprenticeships at the Department of Labor, create a National Advisory Committee to advise on apprenticeships, and produce $10.6 billion in net benefits to the taxpayer through increased tax revenue and decreased spending on public assistance programs and unemployment insurance.
