Stauber Introduces House Resolution to Support First Amendment Rights of Parents at School Board Meetings

October 21, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the Biden Administration's weaponization of the Department of Justice to crack down on parents for exercising their First Amendment rights at school board meetings, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) introduced a House Resolution supporting the First Amendment rights of parents who wish to speak out on their child's education.

Of this resolution, Stauber stated, "As a parent, I am increasingly troubled by the Biden Administration's intent to paint parents who express concerns at school board meetings as domestic terrorists. Parents have a constitutionally-protected right to speak at school board meetings. This right is more important than ever with schools implementing critical race theory along with harmful mask and vaccine mandates. The Administration's approach is wrong. Parental rights matter, and Congress must demonstrate support for their First Amendment right to speak up."

24 Members of Congress joined Stauber in introducing this resolution. Click HERE to read the full text of the resolution.

BACKGROUND:

After an interest group requested the Department of Justice label parents protesting at school board meetings as domestic terrorists, Attorney General Merrick Garland agreed by mobilizing the Justice Department.

Four sitting members of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights condemned this action.
