Stauber to Oppose $1.9 Trillion Biden Bailout
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) made the following statement prior to House consideration of the 1.9 trillion-dollar stimulus package containing Democrats' far-left priorities, an overwhelming majority of which are unrelated to mitigating the impact of COVID. Of this legislation, Congressman Stauber stated:
"For months, we've heard many calls for unity and bipartisanship from President Biden. Unfortunately, no serious efforts were made by the President or Congressional Democrats to work with Republicans to deliver bipartisan, thoughtful and fiscally responsible solutions to help Americans during this uncertain period.
"Last year, Congress enacted five bipartisan COVID bills, yet an astonishing 1 trillion-dollars remains unspent. So why are Democrats rushing through a partisan bill to spend another $1.9 trillion? The devastating truth is this - the President and his far-left allies in Congress want to pass a bill loaded with liberal giveaways and pet projects which Americans don't need and simply cannot afford.
"Biden recently asked Congress where he could cut the pork. We could start by eliminating the $100 million rail project in Pelosi's backyard, the benefits for illegal immigrants, the funding for Planned Parenthood, or the federally mandated minimum wage increase that will kill 2.7 million jobs. While there are a few parts of this package that I support, the vast majority of provisions are unrelated to emergency COVID relief.
"The federal government's top priority should be revitalizing the economy, safely reopening schools, and distributing vaccines. I am hearing from my constituents daily who are fed up with reckless spending that we cannot afford. Instead, they want Congress to deliver targeted solutions that don't saddle our children with even more debt. The American people deserve better than this bloated, partisan package. That's why I will vote no later this evening."
