Stauber’s Aviation Safety Legislation Advances Out of Transportation and Infrastructure Committee

March 24, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee advanced Congressman Pete Stauber's (MN-08) aviation safety legislation, the Notice to Airmen Improvement Act, which requires clearer safety notifications to pilots.

Specifically, this legislation would establish a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) taskforce to determine what improvements should be made to the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) system, which alerts pilots of potential hazards along a flight route or at a location that could affect the safety of the flight.

Of his bill's passage out of committee, Stauber said, "During my time on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I have heard from a number of pilots who have expressed concerns over the inefficiencies of the NOTAM system. Modern aviation is incredibly safe, but in order to keep it that way, we must constantly work to update and improve upon safety protocols. That's why I am proud to lead legislation that will help modernize this critical safety system, and I am glad to have seen it garner bipartisan support from my colleagues on the Committee."

In the 116th Congress, Stauber passed this legislation out of the House as a Member of the minority, and at a time when many good initiatives were being stalled due to partisan politics. Learn more, HERE.

Congressman Stauber is currently serving his second term on the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation.
