Stauber Slams Pelosi’s $3.5 Trillion Partisan Tax-and-Spending Package
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) made the following statement on Speaker Pelosi's $3.5 trillion tax-and-spending package:
"As middle-class families across the nation continue to suffer from skyrocketing inflation, Speaker Pelosi decided to call the House back in session to vote on yet another socialist tax-and-spending package. I want to make my opposition to this package crystal clear because, in addition to raising taxes on American families, it will fund many of the far-left's expensive radical policies, like mass amnesty. Meanwhile, it provides absolutely nothing to help Homeland Security secure our southern border and drops military funding to dangerously low levels.
"Perhaps most troubling is the fact that this package calls for the highest sustained spending levels in American history, with $68 trillion in total spending over the next ten years. Make no mistake, this package is a disaster as it will saddle the American people with $17 trillion in new debt, more taxes, and long-term inflation. The hardworking families that I represent should never have to foot the bill for Democrats' outrageous spending, and I will continue to push back on any attempt to make them do so.
"Instead of spending ourselves into ruin, both sides of the aisle must begin to work together to find commonsense solutions to the many Biden-made crises, like soaring inflation, the chaos at our southern border, the dramatic rise in crime, and the unfolding disaster in Afghanistan."
Among the troubling provisions included in this package:
- $3.5 trillion in immediate spending.
- $68 trillion in spending over the next ten years.
- Add $17 trillion in new debt.
- Raise taxes and costs on American families earning under $400,000.
- Push American jobs overseas and reward China by taxing U.S. employers at one of the highest rates in the world.
- Provide amnesty to illegal immigrants.
- Banish low-cost traditional electricity.
- Drop military funding to the lowest levels, as a percentage of the economy, in over 80 years.
- Provide a ZERO% increase for Homeland Security when the border crisis continues to worsen.
