Stauber Statement on Deadly Afghanistan Attack

August 26, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) made the following statement after today's deadly attack in Afghanistan resulted in the loss of numerous U.S. servicemembers:

"I am deeply heartbroken by the loss of our U.S. servicemembers who were killed in the heinous attacks outside the Kabul airport. My heart is with the families of these fallen heroes; I cannot begin to imagine their terrible pain as they receive this devastating news. We need to keep these families in our prayers.

"It didn't need to be this way, and the responsibility falls squarely upon the shoulders of President Biden and Vice President Harris. Their botched withdrawal has led to the deadliest day in Afghanistan since President Obama was in office, and the largest death toll in one attack on servicemembers in more than a decade. As this crisis continues to worsen under the failed leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration, my office continues to do everything in our power to get Americans and our allies out of Afghanistan."
