Stauber Statement on Joe Biden’s Last State of the Union Address

March 7, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) released the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address:

“Tonight, President Joe Biden tried to tell the American people that the state of our union is strong. The American people were not convinced, and like me, they remain very concerned over the lack of leadership in the White House.

“The President’s message completely ignored the hard realities I hear from my constituents on a regular basis. It did not mention the struggle of working-class families who are forced to go into credit card debt to feed their kids and pay their mortgage because of record high inflation. It ignored the frustration of union miners ready to get shovels in the ground and develop the critical minerals necessary for our way of life, while providing for their families.

“Biden’s address did not alleviate the worries of our service members and their families, who fear that his weakness on the world stage will result in more endless wars. It did not provide solutions to rid our streets of crime and violence. And it did not include an apology to the grieving families who have lost loved ones to the illicit drugs, criminals, and cartels that have come through the wide-open southern border.

“The state of our union is one of decline, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Americans are resilient and exceptional people - and when their nation’s top leaders protect freedom, provide safety, and enable prosperity - there are no bounds to the success that they can achieve. As I leave the Capitol tonight with Biden’s divisive and partisan words still ringing in my ears, I am hopeful that come November, the American people will take their destiny into their own hands and send our country in a better direction. I am confident that our best days are still ahead.”
