Stauber Votes to Impeach Mayorkas

February 13, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) voted in favor of two articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for willfully and systematically refusing to comply with federal immigration laws and breach of public trust.

Of his support of impeachment, Stauber said, “After a nearly year-long investigation led by House Republicans, it is clear that the invasion at our southern border is intentional, and that Secretary Mayorkas is a primary architect of this crisis. In deliberately choosing not to enforce existing immigration laws, Secretary Mayorkas has made it possible for 8.3 million illegal immigrants, tons of illicit fentanyl, and record numbers of criminals from the terrorist watchlist to enter this county and endanger countless lives. Tragically, many American families have already paid a heavy price for Secretary Mayorkas’ dereliction of duty, and this cannot be allowed to continue.

"Secretary Mayorkas has lost the trust of the American people, and now he must lose his position of power within this Administration. Today, I voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas because when he swore the oath of office, he swore to defend this nation, not to blindly follow Biden's open border agenda. We are a nation of laws, and any federal official who puts American lives at risk by refusing to uphold the law must be held accountable.”
