The 100 or so people who attended a roundtable with U.S. Congressman Pete Stauber CD-8, on Thursday went away with a homework assignment to get the word out about Highway 8 and its shortfalls. They were told to contact state leaders. Correspond with federal transportation officials. Contact transportation commissioners. Make sure everybody knows what Highway 8 needs and why.
Congressman Pete Stauber visited the Brainerd Exchange Thursday, June 1, in an intimate session with supporters regarding gun rights and the Second Amendment.
178,622. That's how many migrants U.S. Customs and Border Protection encountered at the nation's southern border in April alone — the highest number on record in more than 20 years.
Illegal immigration has long been a serious issue, but since the beginning of this year, the situation at the southern border has become a full-blown humanitarian and national security crisis. Unfortunately, this crisis at the border is no coincidence.
STAPLES, Minn. — With representatives from agriculture, construction, education, mining, hospitality, trucking and timber, there was no shortage of concern over the need for workers right now during a gathering Thursday, April 8, in central Minnesota.
Owner Mike Boomer said business is down 90% at his convenience store and gas station, his general manager of more than 10 years departed and he doesn't know where he'll find employees once the border finally reopens to more travelers.
"Being a third-generation business owner has its own challenges without two governments working against us," Boomer said during a roundtable discussion on Tuesday. "We need some sort of opening — not tomorrow, we need it now."
For over two decades, I had the privilege of serving our community as a Duluth Police officer. As a former officer, I can tell you that there is nothing a good cop dislikes more than a bad cop. That's why I introduced common-sense police-reform legislation called the JUSTICE Act, along with Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina. As one of the only law-enforcement officers serving in Congress, I have been honored to lead on this issue.
WASHINGTON, D.C -- K9 Luna, who was shot and killed during a standoff in Duluth Friday, was honored at the U.S. Capitol Tuesday.
Rep. Pete Stauber, who represents Minnesota's 8th Congressional District, gave a tribute to the late Duluth Police Department K9 on the House of Representatives floor.
"K9 Luna was a guardian of the Duluth community," Stauber said. "She died a hero's death, giving her life to protect her partner and fellow officers on the scene."
President Biden promised to reopen schools within 100 days of taking office, yet just recently his press secretary significantly walked back on this promise, giving a less than ambitious goal parents wanted to hear. President Biden's new "goal" is to see our nation's schools hold in-person classes just once a week by the end of April. This is unacceptable — America's students deserve better.
The move comes as mining supporters fear — and environmental groups hope — that the Biden administration will reinstate moves made in the final days of the Obama administration that rescinded the leases of Twin Metals, a proposed underground copper-nickel mine in the same watershed as the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and prompted study on a proposed 20-year ban on mining activity on 234,000 acres of the Superior National Forest outside the BWCAW.
When Northeastern Minnesota re-elected me to Congress last month, I reaffirmed my commitment to serving all my constituents, whether they voted for me or not. I stand by this promise. We find ourselves in unprecedented times, and our nation is calling for its leaders to find bipartisan solutions to help every American.
