While we are on opposite sides of the aisle in Congress, we want many of the same things for our neighbors, including timely and affordable health care, safer communities or brighter futures for our children. Sometimes, we just have different ideas on how to get there.

On one issue in particular, we share a lot of common ground. We are both parents of children with special needs and have found that the federal government is not meeting its funding obligation to Minnesota's students who need special education services.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) introduced H.R. 527, the Superior National Forest Land Exchange Act of 2019. This bipartisan legislation provides legal certainty by codifying the land exchange between PolyMet Mining, Inc. and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) into statute. The legislation will move PolyMet one step closer to responsibly developing the NorthMet ore body located in northeastern Minnesota. This is Stauber's first bill introduced as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Congressman Pete Stauber will donate his salary during the ongoing federal government shutdown to the Domestic Abuse Intervention Program in Duluth.

"I strongly believe it isn't right for members of Congress to be paid while parts of the federal government remain shut down and thousands of federal workers are furloughed," Stauber said in a news release on Monday. "Rather than asking for my pay to be withheld and sending it straight back to the federal government, (my wife) Jodi and I have decided to give this money to those who need it most."
