Calling from his new office in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Rep. Pete Stauber continued to strike a chord for cooperation roughly one week into his term serving the 8th Congressional District.
The Hermantown Republican attended a bipartisan retreat last weekend in Williamsport, Pa., sponsored by the Congressional Research Service, which supplies members of Congress with impartial policy and legal information.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) made the following statement today regarding his decision to donate his congressional salary to the Domestic Abuse Intervention Program in Duluth, Minnesota during the partial government shutdown:
Congressman Pete Stauber will donate his salary during the ongoing federal government shutdown to the Domestic Abuse Intervention Program in Duluth.
"I strongly believe it isn't right for members of Congress to be paid while parts of the federal government remain shut down and thousands of federal workers are furloughed," Stauber said in a news release on Monday. "Rather than asking for my pay to be withheld and sending it straight back to the federal government, (my wife) Jodi and I have decided to give this money to those who need it most."
