In the letter, Stauber and his colleagues cite Rep. Haaland's support of job-killing bills like the Green New Deal and her poor track record on issues like mining.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) introduced Saving America's Mines Act, legislation that will prohibit any Administration from unilaterally halting the mining of critical minerals on federal lands where mining is currently permissible. Stauber introduced this legislation with President Joe Biden and his Administration specifically in mind, as a politically motivated mineral withdrawal in the Superior National Forest occurred in the final days of his Vice Presidency.

The move comes as mining supporters fear — and environmental groups hope — that the Biden administration will reinstate moves made in the final days of the Obama administration that rescinded the leases of Twin Metals, a proposed underground copper-nickel mine in the same watershed as the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and prompted study on a proposed 20-year ban on mining activity on 234,000 acres of the Superior National Forest outside the BWCAW.
